1. Introduction
DateBack (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the DateBack desktop application and when you visit the DateBack website (dateback.app).
2. The Desktop Application
No Account or License Required
DateBack does not require a license key, account, purchase, or in-app activation. The desktop app does not send a license key or purchase identifier to DateBack servers.
What the App Does Not Collect
- Personal data: DateBack does not intentionally collect, store, or transmit personal information to our servers.
- Usage analytics: We do not collect usage or analytics data from the application.
- Photo or video content: Your memories are processed locally on your device. We do not access, store, or view your photo or video content.
How Your Files Are Processed
DateBack reads your downloaded Snapchat ZIP file, processes the media files locally on your device, and writes the results to the output folder you choose. Some Snapchat exports include media links that require an internet connection to download from Snapchat's servers, and the website/app update flow uses external services for downloads. In Cloud Mode, the processed files are written into a folder inside your own cloud sync service (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or Box). DateBack does not initiate any upload calls to those services — syncing is handled entirely by your cloud sync client running on your device, under your own account.
Local Application State
- The app may store local preferences and processing state so it can resume work and remember your folders.
- DateBack does not store payment details, license keys, or media files outside your chosen folders.
- Uninstalling DateBack removes application data. Your processed files remain where you saved them.
3. The Website (dateback.app)
When you visit dateback.app, the following third-party services may process your data as part of normal website operation. We do not control these services, but we are transparent about them.
Google Fonts
The DateBack website loads DM Sans, Bricolage Grotesque, and Plus Jakarta Sans from Google’s font service (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser requests a font file, Google receives your IP address, browser user agent, and the URL of the page you are visiting. This data is processed by Google under Google’s Privacy Policy. Google has stated that Google Fonts does not use this data to build advertising profiles or set cookies.
Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — delivering a consistent, readable interface to all visitors.
GitHub Releases
DateBack download links point to GitHub Releases. When you visit GitHub or download an installer, GitHub may process your IP address, browser user agent, and request details under GitHub’s Privacy Statement.
Netlify (Website Hosting & Contact Form)
The website is hosted by Netlify. When you submit the contact form on dateback.app, your name, email address, message, and subject are transmitted to and stored by Netlify on our behalf. We use this information solely to read and respond to your inquiry. Netlify processes this data under Netlify’s Privacy Policy.
- Data collected: Name, email address, subject, message content.
- Purpose: Responding to your support request or inquiry.
- Retention: Contact form submissions are retained in the Netlify dashboard until we delete them, and no longer than 12 months from receipt.
- Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — providing support to users who contact us.
Buy Me A Coffee (Donation Button)
The website displays a Buy Me A Coffee donation button, which loads a button image from cdn.buymeacoffee.com. Your browser sends a request to Buy Me A Coffee’s CDN when this image loads, which may log your IP address. If you click the button and make a donation, your payment and personal information are handled entirely by Buy Me A Coffee under Buy Me A Coffee’s Privacy Policy. Donating is entirely optional and is not required to download or use DateBack.
4. Your Rights
General Rights
- Local data: All processed files are in the output folder you chose — you own and control them entirely.
- Cloud sync: Any files written to a cloud sync folder are synced by your cloud provider under your own account and settings.
Rights Under GDPR (EEA and UK Residents)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights regarding any personal data we hold about you (such as contact form submissions):
- Right of access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: You may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure: You may request that we delete your personal data.
- Right to restriction: You may request that we limit processing of your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability: You may request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object: You may object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to lodge a complaint: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

California Residents (CCPA)
We do not sell personal information. If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request deletion of your personal information. Contact us at support@dateback.app to exercise these rights.
5. Cookies
The DateBack website does not set first-party cookies. Google Fonts does not set cookies per Google’s current policy. Netlify may set technical cookies necessary for form submission and security. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in an updated “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of DateBack after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
