Introduction
DateBack ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our desktop application.
Information We Collect
License Key
When you activate DateBack, you enter the license key you received by email after purchase. The app sends that key to Polar.sh (our payment and licensing platform) over HTTPS to verify it is valid. Polar stores purchase records in accordance with their own Privacy Policy. DateBack stores the validation result locally on your device so the app does not need to re-validate on every launch.
What We Do Not Collect
- Personal data: DateBack does not intentionally collect, store, or transmit personal information to our servers.
- Usage analytics: We do not knowingly collect usage or analytics data from the Application.
- Photo or video content: Your memories are processed locally on your device. We do not access, store, or view your photo or video content.
How Your Files Are Processed
DateBack reads your downloaded Snapchat ZIP file, processes the media files locally on your Mac, and writes the results to the output folder you choose. In Cloud Mode, the processed files are written into a folder inside your own cloud sync service (iCloud Drive, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, or Box). DateBack does not initiate any upload calls to those services — syncing is handled entirely by your cloud sync client running on your Mac, under your own account.
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
- All photo and video processing occurs locally on your device.
- Processed files are stored in the location you specify.
- No media files are sent to DateBack servers.
License Validation State
- The app stores the result of a successful license validation locally (via electron-store on your Mac).
- This local record contains only the validation status — not your payment details.
- Uninstalling DateBack removes all locally stored application data.
Third-Party Services
Polar.sh (License Validation)
When you activate your license key, DateBack calls the Polar.sh license validation API over HTTPS. The key you enter is transmitted to Polar solely to verify your purchase. Polar's Privacy Policy applies to data stored on their platform: polar.sh/legal/privacy.
No Other Third Parties
DateBack does not intentionally share your data with third parties beyond the license validation described above. To our knowledge, the Application does not include analytics, crash-reporting, or telemetry services.
Your Rights and Choices
Access and Control
- Local data: All processed files are in the output folder you chose — you own and control them entirely.
- License data: Uninstalling DateBack removes all locally stored license state.
- Cloud sync: Any files written to a cloud sync folder are synced by your cloud provider under your own account and settings.
Children's Privacy
DateBack is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and posting the new policy on our website.
